apprenticeship (ə-prěn’tĭs-ship)
n. System of training a new generation of skilled practitioners. Apprentices build towards mastery of their trades; most of their training is done on the job while working with a craftsman who helps the apprentices learn their trade. Practical as well as theoretical education is involved in both formal and informal settings.
